The objective is to identify appropriate standards for selecting "general and fundamental Japanese vocabulary that international students and other non-Japanese people learning Japanese should learn at the earliest stage of learning the language to prepare themselves for future studies in their areas of specialty or vocational training."

Vocabulary Table Ordered by the Semantic Principles Given in Bunrui Goihyo Patterns have been identified as the result of calculation of three-grade scores given by 22 experts in relevant fields, such as Japanese language education, Japanese language, and linguistic education, who classified the vocabulary according to "Bunrui Goihyo (Word List by Semantic Principles)" (National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics, 1964), a Japanese thesaurus that contains about 36,000 items. 2_nihongokyoiku02.xlsx
List of Classification Items A list of classification items used for hierarchical classification of Japanese, in which the language is organized into four part-of-speech-based categories (1. Tai, 2. You, 3. Sou, 4. Others) and further into numbered subcategories.
It is based on the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics Report 6 "Bunrui Goihyo (Word List by Semantic Principles)" (published in 1964), a Japanese thesaurus that contains about 36,000 items.
